Hi there,
I'm thinking about investing in some of these FX6021 speakers, but I've read a review over on the Apple UK store that they buzz when silent (I know, a slight contradiction, but I'm sure you know what I mean )
I'd like to know from some other people who have these speakers if this really is the case.
I've read half-a-dozen or so online reviews and no-one else has mentioned it, so maybe the guy on the Apple site had a rogue pair.
Any advice and opinions would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Matthew

I thought about getting the Altec Lansing FX6021 speakers but I couldn't justify their expensive price tag. They do sound quite good and look fantastic but I decided on getting the Altec Lansing MX5021s instead. MX5021s have more power and when I did a test comparison, I found the MX5021s to have a deeper, richer sound.
So that was yesterday........
Today, I'm going to return my MX5021s and get a pair of studio headphones. The MX5021s definitely have that dreaded hiss even when turned off. I suspect the FX6021s will suffer from a similar problem. If you listen to your music loudly at all times, the hiss won't bother you but I can't do this because I live in an apartment. At a decent volume, the speakers are great but aren't then best choice if you have be mindful of neighbours. Headphone sound much better, offer privacy and are cheaper to boot.
Best thing to do (if you can) is to go hear them in-store. Try to go when the store isn't busy so you'll have a better chance to hear the hiss if it's there.

I got the 6021's in yesterday, great sound, no hissing. One feature I didn't notice when I saw them first at the Apple store is that they come with a remote.
~$200 from newegg.

I've had these for about 8 months now ... I was attracted by the decent sound and how well they go with the current cinema displays. No buzz or hiss, and the sound is certainly very good. I suspect for $200-300 you can get something better sounding (e.g. a proper set of digital monitors) ... these are only worth the money if the looks are important to you (as they are to me). For example, if purchasing now, I'd be tempted by the EDIROL
MA-15D monitors.
