Hi All

Currently live no where near an apple centre or store thus I have no way of checking this info for myself and hopefully the info here will help the mail-order process be regret-free. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am currently thinking of changing my 17" studio LCD for either a 20" or 23" ACD.

Can anyone please tell me if there is firstly a difference in picture quality between the old ADC 17" and the new ones.

Secondly could anyone with either the 20" or 23" ACD please post the actual LCD panel dimensions of the monitors. I have the dimensions including the display bezel but have not been able to find the dimensions of the actual panel alone.

Thanks again for any help.

Cheers

The current line of displays has and improved picture and improved specs in almost every measure over the older 17" ACD.

You can figure panel sizes using the pythagorean theorem. For regular 4:3 monitors, the math is very easy -- the ratio of the diagonal length is 5 to the width of 4 and the height of 3.
For a monitor such as the 20" ACD, you have a 16:10 ratio so
(16)^2 + (10)^2 = (diagonal)^2
356 = (diagonal)^2
sqrt(356) = diagonal
18.87 = diagonal

So, the ratios of a Apple widescreen LCD are W:10 H:16 D:18.87
Since the actual diagonal of the 20" LCD is (obviously) 20", that means the width and height can be calculated as follows
H = (10/18.87) x 20 = 10.6"
W = (16/18.87) x 20 =16.96 "

Hello Krusty,

Sorry for my late reply. I was not able to access the net till today.

Thank you for the information and formula. It was very helpful and at least now I have peace of mind that the replacement will indeed be better.

Cheers
