I just purchased the e815 for verizon wireless... It will not sync right out of the box very similarly to the v710. I knwo there was a hack to get the v710 to work, does any one know of a similar hack for the e815?
Thanks
Frank

I'd have to check when I get home but I would doubt there is a profile for the e815 in iSync. It's not listed on Apple's supported devices page. Might be there in 10.4.2 when it's released.
iSync (in Tiger) did support syncing out of the box on the v710 via USB. The hack for the v710 just replaced a few lines in the existing profile to allow it to sync via Bluetooth in place of the built in support via USB.
I'll dig around though and see if anyone has anything.

I, too am anxious for this info. My 815 arrives Friday and I would love to be able to use bluetooth, and even hopefully connect to the internet on my PB via the phone (wireless or wired would be O.K.). Was thinking about trying the instructions I have found for the v710 and just altering if need be. Look forward to any help anyone can provide!

Well, I don't have an e815 to try this with but it is pretty much the same as the v710 Bluetooth sync hack which works fine for me.
People over there said it has worked for them so give it a shot. As with the v710 hack, make sure you delete any existing Bluetooth pairings you have for the phone first. You will also need to restart after updating the .plist file.
Add the following after the v710 entry in the file:
Code:
<key>com.motorola.E815</key>
<dict>
<key>Identification</key>
<dict>
<key>com.apple.gmi+gmm</key>
<string>Motorola CE, Copyright 2000+Motorola CDMA e815 Phone</string>
</dict>
<key>InheritsFrom</key>
<array>
<string>com.motorola.usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902</string>
</array>
<key>Services</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>ServiceName</key>
<string>com.apple.model</string>
<key>ServiceProperties</key>
<dict>
<key>ModelName</key>
<string>E815</string>
<key>PhoneIcon</key>
<string>MOTV710.tiff</string>
</dict>
</dict>
</array>
</dict>

I edited it for my v710, but wow, what a difference a capital and a lower case letter makes :-) Sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar, I appreciate your post very much as I was about to kill someone if I had to call someone to look up a number on my pbook one more time, LOL.
Oh yeah, in case you couldn't tell, it worked perfectly!

darthslacker -- thanks! However, I am totally new at this, so would like to ask where to begin. You say to "add after V710 entry in the file" -- what file? How do I start? Can I just copy and paste what you have given (once I find out where to put it)? My phone comes today and I'm anxious to get my phone working the way I want it to.
Thanks again!!

Go to your Applications folder, control-click on the iSync icon and select Show Package Contents.
From there go to Contents: PlugIns: ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice: Contents: PlugIns: PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin: Contents: Resources: MetaClasses.plist
That MetaClasses.plist is the file you need to edit. Open it in a text editor, do a search for v710 and add what I have in the post above after the v710 entry in the file. Save the file and restart your computer and you should be ready for your phone.

Thanks for the details for us newbies. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have a PlugIns folder under iSync: Contents, only folders named Resources and MacOS. Is this specific to OS 10.4 (since I am still running 10.3), or it because I deleted the old motorola device in iSync when I attempted to Sync with the new E815? Any suggestions?

It is iSync 2 (hence 10.4) specific.
I know you can sync the v710 through USB in 10.3. You could try digging around Howard Forums to see if anyone has had success doing so with the e815. That is where I get most of my info

For those of you with Tiger, iSync 2.1 has been released. The e815 is now listed on the supported devices page.

I am attempting to use Motorola Mobile Phone Tools in Virtual PC to connect to my E815, but keep getting the message: "A Bluetooth serial failure has occurred. Failed to open an RFCOMM serial channel. Check if authentication needs to be enabled in your device." How do I get around this and be able to sync to MPT through Virtual PC? What do they mean by "authentication" and how do I do it?
Thanks so much if anyone can help me!
