Do the Apple keyboards work on Windows PCs? Anything special needed or just plugin to the USB port?

Yes, they work fine, including USB ports. (Note, however, that Alt and Windows buttons are interchanged.)

For the most part they work fine on PCs. I HAVE had issues getting into BIOS occasionally with it, but I think it may be that in general some PCs can only use a PS2 keyboard from BIOS... Windows needs to load to get the USB drivers. I get a "error no keyboard present press a key to continue" error and have to break out the PS2 keyboard and hit a key to continue booting. What a POS.
