Hi, in a few months, I am going to be filming at a staff reunion, that will have numerous acts of live entertainment on stage.

We are looking fo film this event, so that it can be distributed to those who attend on DVD etc.

However, we only have two mini DV camcorders and one older hi8 camcorder, but would ideally like to be able to have three different angles filmed, so that the final edit will not be purely static camera footage.

ANyway, my question is, how could I go about doing this, without needing to re digitise all of the footage from the Hi8 camcorder? Would it be possible to connect that camcorder to an ibook with firewire drive, through the use of a video input device, and record it straight to hard disk, ready for later editing? The software would either be imovie HD or final cut express 1.

If this is possible, please coiuld somebody give me some suggestions as to a product or better solution?

Most DV camcorders have a mode where you hook up a video source (such as your Hi8) to its inputs, which it then outputs to FireWire, for direct capture into any of the apps you mentioned.

The problem is I need to use my two mini dv camcorders for the performance, as well as my Hi8 camcorder, so I cannot input it into a firewire camcorder for comuntaneous recording can I?

Unless somebody knows something I dont?

ANy suggestions would be much apprictated!

Oh, you mean direct recording to HD live? Get a DV bridge or just another DV camcorder for not much more.

They run about $150-200 new, though I've heard they can be found used on eBay for under $50.
