My 20' cinema display has an occasional problem. It goes black. Restarting doesn't fix it, but if I disconnect and reconnect the monitor from the computer (even without restarting) it works like a charm. I'm running an ATI 7500 video card and a 533 Dual.

A new wrinkle. I've found a correlation with the firewire. If I plug in my firewire ipod, the screen will immediatly go either to half brightness, or completly black. Replugging in the monitor fixes it immediatly.

An even odder wrinkle. I plugged the firewire cable into my iBook. Screen on it immediatly goes blank. What the heck could possibly be going on? I'm stumped. It makes no earthly sense.

That sounds like fun...
So does this only happen with the iPod? What about other FW devices? Does the cinema exhibit this problem without iPod intervention as well?

Try connecting the display to the iBook to see if the same thing happens.
