Ok so well after saving all the money I could afford I finally did it I bough myself a 30" Apple Cinema Display.
I arrived last week, I quickly plugged in everything and turn on my G5.....
Yikkkkkess... nothing happened. On my bike of to the closest apple retailer.
Just in the door I ask could anyone please test this power adaptor ? And well it was dead.
So back it was send got a new on in the mail today....
Hooked it all up, laaaaa foine I can see a picture.
Put up a solid white image to check for dead pixels and I found one, somewhere on the side no bid deal.
Started watching all kinds of movies, dvd's anything that would make me enjoy this screen....
And then suddenly without a warning I get a few thousand blinking pixels, blinking green just like dead once. I freak....WTF
Quickly I changed the display resolution to something lower, that got rid of them, back to max they came back after a few minutes.
So now restart.... and after a few minutes they showed up again. Now I was getting mad !!!
So I took my camera and tried taking pictures of what I was seeing, then the battery of the canon I was using died and I say I better have a long lunch.
Coming back from lunch I changed the back ground to black and white, and went looking for answers. The first 2 hours after lunch nothing, but then.... oh no they were suddenly blue pixs instead of green all over the place.
Now I decided to call Apple.....1-800-we want more money for tech support.
Well nice guy, he clearly loved macs but no real answers.
I told him I would check on drivers for my Nvidia Ultra DDL and try the other DVI port on the screen that I am using now.
So I am basicly stuck dragging this machine and screen to the store if this happens again.
And I am pretty sure it will. Anyone know what the problem might be?
All magentic and electrical objects have been moved away from the LCD, nothing is plugged into either firewire or usb ports on the screen.
HELP !!!!

Sounds like you have a bad DVI cable. Return the panel for a new one.

Could be why would you this is the problem, just wondering. I cannot lose my entire machine for a day of testing at an apple store hence I would prefer it to be the display and not the G5.

Ok this pixel thing is driving me crazy is it possible that this has something to do with the Nvidia 6800 DDL card? I would really hate having to drag it into the store... here some pics for those interested to see what it looks like
Let's hope those images show up, now when I take the cursor and "do a cut and darg box in that area" the pixels go away, as soon as I let go of the mouse botton they are back.

well, it sure sounds like you'll have to go through the whole troubleshooting process. dragging the G5 and/or the cinema display around on a bike does sound like an accident waiting to happen, though! good luck!

Sounds to me like a video card problem. Check and make sure the fan on the video card is working correctly. If so, it might be that your VRAM went bad.
Also, are you running 10.4.2? It might be a driver problem. If you have an external firewire drive or second SATA drive I'd recommend installing a fresh copy of OS X on another drive to see if it's a software issue.
Try to troubleshoot the problem -- it'll make your repair faster if you have to bring it in.

Isn't the pixel shimmer a known issue on many 30"ers? Ive read plenty about it on these and Apple's forums.
Do a search for pixel shimmer on these forums. From what I remember reading, you'll just have to get another display till you get one that doesnt have the shimmer.
