Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a box that will allow me to plug my 20 inch cinema display into it, and then plug two computers into that box, and be able to switch back and forth between which computer is displayed. I must not be searching for the right thing, because the box I found costs like $300...is it really that expensive? any thoughts?

Most of the time you'd need something called a "KVM" (for Keyboard, Video, Mouse). It's a switch that allows you to use one "console" for more than one computer. The thing is that all of them I've seen in an affordable price range are for VGA monitors. I haven't found anything that says how to use a Cinema Display with a VGA input signal.

A DVI KVM will be expensive. $300 sounds about right.

P.S. Forget about using a DVI display on VGA: adapters exist, but they are VERY expensive.

So something like this?

edit: This ones $65, seems ok right? I would need to stick PS/2 to USB adapters on my keybaord though, which should work...?

The first one is ideal.

The second one would let you switch video, but forget about using PS/2 adapters; instead get a USB switch separately.

Note, though, that DVI is very sensitive to switch and cable quality: a $65 DVI KVM has a high risk of causing video glitches, especially on large displays.
