Yes, we have several at the school district where I work. They work well. I ended up puchasing a LaCie 160 gb because it was cheaper and I didn't need as much portability as the Smartdisk offerred.
Yes, I have one and use it as a boot and backup disk. It's a handy little drive. I'd go with a standard-size external, though, if you don't absolutely need the portability.
