Can anyone recommend a good set of usb speakers? I want to use them with my wifes ibook. I I will plug them into her usb hub and that way she only has to plug into one thing when she is at her desk.

Thanks,
Scott

Remember that you could just get a USB audio interface and then hook up whatever speakers you want. That'd give you the most flexibility -- there aren't many USB speakers on the market. I can't think of one model right now, now that the SoundSticks II are not USB.

Thanks, but I want to keep complexity to an absolute minimum for her.

I will look on ebay for some of the original soundsticks.

How does that make things more complicated? You plug it up once, and then she just plugs in the hub. Same difference, no?

Well, a USB audio interface would mean an extra box... and a visit to the Audio pref pane now and then. I personally think m-audio's Transit is excellent.

But why no just plug normal amplified speakers in the iBooks headphone port?

You are not supposed to plug the soundsticks into a hub.

The Griffin iMic is a decent inexpensive USB interface that you can use with any conventional set of speakers. No extra setup is required that wouldn't be required from having USB speakers to begin with. I also recommend the app SoundSource, this allows you to change the output source without having to go into System Preferences.

Outside of that, see if you can find a set of the original Soundsticks for USB speakers.
