I own a 20" iMac, which has been rock solid. My fiancee was looking to upgrade her PC's CRT to an LCD. Why not check out the 23"? Especially after the price drop.

We've tried 4 cards: Ti 4200, 5200 FX, 9550 Pro, 9800 Pro

...all based off of ATI and Apple support telling us to try successively more powerful cards. ATI won't support us because the cards work fine with the CRT, and Apple points the fingers at ATI's drivers.

It's a computer monitor, not the space shuttle. I've been dealing with PCs since the 8086 days and this is the first I've heard of this nonsense.

The nVidia cards recognize the monitor at least, but no picture. ATI cards don't even do that. I think it came on once for a second with the first card (we tried the 5200 FX first) but that was it. So off to the local Apple store. They took it into the back room and came back, said it worked fine

Not really sure what to do anymore. A search for this type of problem on the rest of the web gives us nightmarish accounts very similar to ours, most resulting in people returning their monitors and going with another vendor

What's going on here guys? Any suggestions?

Rob

Buy a cheap new video card for your PC such as GeForce 6200.

Try booting up with the CRT connected to the VGA port as well as the ACD. Then, once booted into windows (assuming the picture has appeared on the CRT), open up display properties, go to settings, and you should see two screens, 1 and 2. One of them will represent the LCD, click on it and try increasing the resolution to 1920x1200, then apply. Its not a question of a more powerful video card, my Radeon 9600XT will do this resolution fine.
