Try DiskWarrior. Most of the Norton apps seem to cause more damage than they fix, but DiskWarrior may still be able to fix the problem.

Do. Never. Use. Norton.
Recovering professionally costs several thousand dollars, AFAIK. Depending on data volume and damage. I your case, it only logical damage, maybe the exorbitant prices are only when recovering from physically damaged drives. But a few hundred bucks a the least.

well thanks all
i got disk warrior and ran it but it only sees nothing...however...the physical drive size is 195gig. DW reads 183gigs and it says:
DiskWarrior has successfully built a new directory for the disk named "LaCie d2 195 GB." The new directory cannot replace the original directory due to a Mac OS services failure.
so i imagine...somewhare the original directory is still there and all the files too....
hmmm
