I'm looking for a 17" touchscreen LCD I'd like to put into a manufacturing environement and power it by Mac Minis. Currently I can only find a touchscreen that will work with a $120 driver! Anyone?

Awww, no thoughts? We're trying to find a way to accomplish this in a cost effective way for a manufacturing-like environment. This would have to be the first (or close) Mac Mini environments like this, and we don't want to have to go to Windows. I found one, but it's 2x the price of other 17" LCDs. BTW, we need standard VESA mounting 75x75 or 100x100 is what will be on displays mainly. Here's the company: http://www.cybertouch.com/ORION.html This has to be cost effective compared with Windows implemenations.

My touchscreen lcd works as a mouse, so I guess you could try without drivers … touchscreen lcds are usually a lot more expensive than regular lcds, also in the windows world. But their built is usually a lot more solid than `regular' lcds.

What LCD do you use? All I want to do is have it work as a mouse with click when touched. Yes, touchscreen LCDs are a lot more, we were looking at one we liked from ELO that's a sealed design for $775 each. I'd love to hear how yours works!

They are Agilent medical displays, but I have them hooked up to my Linux machine! Sorry for the confusion, but there they simply work as mice. There are basically two manufacturers of the touchscreen electronics: microtech and elo. I couldn't connect to my Mac even if I wanted to, they have serial connectors.
Check out this page about MacOS X touchscreen drivers. As long as you can find out what company's electronics are used in the touchscreen you are interested in, I think you can make it work.

maybe this is a bit far off, but.....
have you thought about checking car-puter/video sources? I have seen a few instances of people running mac minis w/touch screens. I know Lilliput makes a small 7' touch screen, but if i recall correctly you can get an overlay that will "convert" a regular screen.
I dont remeber too much about it, but it's worth a shot.

Most touchscreens are now offered as USB too. That touch-base company is insane though, they want $180 PER DISPLAY for their OS X driver. I guess I need to go with Cybertouch. Thanks for the other comment, but we do need at least a 15" display. Jeez, just not many options here!
