Does anyone know when devices using Palm OS 6.1 are going to become available? I'd like to have an OS that can actually multi-task -- like my Symbian phone.

If not soon, I'm going to buy a PocketPC!!

Can't remember where I saw it, maybe Brighthand.com, but Palm isn't going to use 6.1 ever. They are concentrating now on their new Linux-based OS. When will that be done? Who knows?

Seems they are going to be selling treo's with Windows on it. They must not have much faith in Cobolt.

Yeah, Palm OS management needs to be sacked. They are incompetent. For 3 years now, they have been trying to fix Palm OS 6 so it would work reliably, to no avail. Unbelievable...

The current Palm 5.x OS sucks also.

I got a Palm Zire 71 a couple years ago and sold it after a year of use. I found the OS so overly simple and primitive I couldn't do what I wanted with it. As a former Newton user I was spoiled by the advanced OS that even Palm can't match today.

I, too, keep comparing all these handhelds to the Newton: Even today, nothing comes close.

I loved being able to create an appointment or fax someone just by writing it onto the notepad. Wow! What a concept: You don't have to SWITCH to an application just to enter a ToDo or communicate. The Newton Assistant was great and is sorely missed.

As far as Palm implementing Linux: I don't know. Why did they buy BeOS?

Too bad there aren't any Symbian PDAs. Symbian is better than anything out there so far, although it still isn't as smart as the Newton OS was.

Amen on the Newton. Still the best. Why Apple/Jobs don't just get over it and bring the thing back is a mystery. After all, they finally made a two-button mouse.

Not really. Apple skipped on two-, three- and four-button mice.

The Mighty Mouse is a FIVE-button mouse.
