Help with HP PSC 1410 AIO

So I picked up a cheapie AIO at Staples today, figuring that I'd use it at home and take my Canon Lide 30 up to my office.

But the stupid thing won't scan multiple pages, nor will it scan directly to PDF. I like it. It's fast. It's sleek. But HP tech support says that I can only scan one page at a time, which is just idiotic.

I've tried the Vuescan software with it, and even though it claims it'll do multi-page, it actually just saves a bunch of individual PDFs. Does anyone know if it is possible to MAKE this AIO scan multi-page documents? I don't care if they're TIFFs at this point, so long as I can open them up in preview and export to PDF.

Thought I'd ask here before I returned it.
