I found this while browsing. Don't need a 30", but maybe somebody here would be interested.

I'm usually not a naysayer... but... a mint condition 30", with all original packaging, being sold for half of retail price...
*sniff* *sniff*... I think I smell a scam brewing.

Anybody that recently paid the $3,000 that the 30" displays cost isn't going to turn around and sell it for half of what they paid. They could easily get $2250 to $2500 with no problem. Even though the pictures look convincing, they could simply be photos somebody posted somewhere else of their new 30" screen.

It must be some type of scam - because I know I saw that exact same ad on the Austin Craiglist's website a few days ago, and now it's gone! Also, I saw a similar ad to that a while back (from the same guy I believe), he was advertising a PowerBook G4 Aluminum 15 Inch with all the latest specs for $1150. I e-mailed him out of sheer curiousity, and this was his response (I edited out his last name):

My name is Bryan and I live in London,Uk.The last price for the item is 1150 usd.
The item is new ,in box with 36 months international warranty .

Here is how I want to go about delivery and payment for the product which will be through Chronopost International and will also give you the chance to inspect the product before I receive the payment for it.
I will explain to you step by step how this will work.
A. First you have to send me your shipping information (your name and address).
1. After I receive your shipping info, I'll go to a Chronopost International Location and leave the product onto your name and with your address as the intended receiver.
2. Chronopost will check the product, also the legal papers to see that everything is OK with it.
B. You will receive a notification from Chronopost as a confirmation that the product is in their custody and also, that the product has been tested.
1.Chronopost International will verify the Money Transfer, and if everything is in order, they will deliver the product to your door step.
2. After you will receive the product and you will be completely satisfied with it, you will instruct Chronopost to release the payment information to me, so I can collect my money.
C. If by any reason, you will not be satisfied with the product, you will return the product to Chronopost with no expense.
I will pay for shipping and you for the amount transfer.
Let me know if we can do this.
Thanks!

The ad was in the exact same format, with a wide range of photographs just like the ACD post.

Yep, that's the typical scam setup.

You should've replied back:
Thanks for your mail,Since the cost of your 30" Apple Cinema Display is $1500 i just contacted
my client about the cost of your display and it present condition and he said there is no problem about that. So my client said he will be issuing you a Certified Check of $4000 while you wire $2000 to me through Western Union Money Trasfer and you deduct the cost of your display $1500 and keep the
remaining $500 which my client said you should take for the terms of Transaction and Agreement between you and my client. So i will like you to send me your full contact information to where my client will be sending you the Certified Check

The best way to fight scams... is with more scams! LOL.

So how does this scam work?

Basically 'Chronopost International' is a dummy company. They'll send you notification that they have the display in their possession, and that it 'checks out'. You send them the money transfer, they take the cash, and you never receive the display.

These Nigerian scammers are getting pretty good at what they do. If you want a good read on scammers, check out The Scam Baiter. It's a site dedicated to busting these scammer's chops (so to speak).

There's some hilarious stuff that they do to these scammers... like send broken washing machines mocked up to look like a laptop, etc. LOL.

LOL... an unwanted gift.

If that doesn't scream "THIS IS A SCAM!" then I don't know what does.

Somebody should ask if he'd trade a Powerbook G4 for it, shipped at his expense, then send him a brick.
