The title says it all... I'm pretty sure that the LCD panels used in the 20in iMacG5 and Dell/2005FPW are the same. The question is, does anyone know how hard it would be to do a swap?
Why?
Because I, very stupidly, made 2 small, but visible and annoying scratches on the iMac screen. As I bought the Dell to be my secondary monitor, I would mind the scratches less if they were on the Dell than if they were on the Mac.
Thanks for any help.

if you scratched the screen of a iMac G5, wouldn't you have scratched the cover (not the LCD itself)?

Even if the actual panel is the same, the interface is probably NOT the same. There will be a variety of cables in the iMac for the display, including the inverter cable and the panel cable itself. I guarantee that the connectors on these will NOT be the same between the iMac and the Dell.

Uhh, I dunno... is there a cover on this screen? If there is, is there a way to replace the cover?
Thanks.

Unless you took the iMac apart and scratched it, then you scratched the clear plastic cover on the iMac case. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the front of the iMac G5 is a smooth surface, top to bottom with no joints. I believe that the case is a front half and back half that come apart with screws on the bottom. You'll just need to get a front case assembly to fix your scratch.

I'm not sure where you can get a front case assembly...
The other option would be to use Brasso to polish the screen where it's scratched. People use this on iPods, but there's an argument as to whether or not it just makes more scratches. Search the iPod forum.
