I just installed an HP DeskJet 3740 printer... where can I find the Toolkit it installs to print a test page, check levels, etc? There's nothing in apps or utilities and pressing the utility button on the print setup has no effect at all.

sometimes it is buried deep in the hp folder in your apps folder or elsewhere.

thanks for your oh so helpful reply, oh wise one. i could have never figured that out on my own. arsehole.

on a serious note, the readme file placed on the desktop had nothing more than basic printer troubleshooting info (restart it, clear a paper jam, etc) and the hp website is no help at all. spotlight finds nothing related to the utility for searching for "hp", "inkjet", "deskjet", etc

well, i've tried tracking down the software after much digging on HP's site... for whatever reason "HP Inkjet Toolkit.app" is not installed on my system, and the installer refuses to install it saying it doesn't need to.

any advice?

Well, since you don't seem to have a sense of humor, and appear to still need help, I will try

Check here 1st: Library >> Receipts. Check for anything with HP or your printer model in it. IF you find it, delete it. One of the more likely reason the s/w will not install, because it thinks it is already there.

2nd look here: Library >> Printers >>HP >> Utilities. If the toolkit is already installed, it most likely resides here. While in this folder, check for a .plugin file with your printers model number.

ANd if you do find the toolkit or any of it's utilities, you can drag them to your dock and launch them from there instead of digging for them every time you want to use 'em

Hope this helps!

ps........ my sarcasm my not be interpreted as funny by some folks, but name calling is not nice
