So I've finally gotten around to installing Tiger, many months after it came out. I made sure I had recent versions of all my favourite software and peripheral drivers and was very nearly finished installing everything when...
My Epson Perfection 2580 won't work. I'm installing the latest software, EPSON Scan 2.6v, but all I get is the application bouncing once in the dock and then disappearing.
Has anyone else got this scanner working under 10.4.2? Does anyone know how to get it working?

Did you also install the TWAIN software & plug ins ?
They are essential, not optional. Especially if you want to import images into Photoshop or other imaging app.
You must have the scanner connected, powered on BEFORE starting the Epson Scan app.
My s/w is version 2.65a, dated 6/27/05, and works great with my Perfection 1250 USB & 10.4.2, either stand alone or in PS
perhaps you just need an update or trash all prefs, plists and re-install ?

For quite a while I just kept uninstalling and reinstalling that file I linked to in my first post, with no further luck. Then I gave in and dug out the CD that came with the scanner and installed the drivers off of there. And, just when it was finished, it said I needed to restart my computer. At which point I realised I hadn't done that with the downloaded file because it hadn't prompted me to do so and it simply hadn't occurred to me that I might need to.
So, the scanner works fine now, all is well with Tiger. Hoo-hah.
