(fairly fixed now, see next message)

G'day,

I have a year old 160 GB Seagate HD inside a OWC Mercury elite case. I'm the original owner and it has always worked perfectly. It's only used for nightly backups using ChronoSync. The HD stays at home in the same spot, never moves.

Tonight when I turned the HD on it mounted very slowly. Then refused to unmount. I turned it off and tried to mount again. Now it won't mount at all. Have repaired permissions and run Disk Warrior on my boot drive (different drive than the external). Also took the HD enclosure apart to make sure it's all hooked up correctly, no problems there.

The HD doesn't make any unusual noises, it sounds perfectly normal, powers up fine, just doesn't appear in finder. Tried "Mount Me" from MU, doesn't even recognize that the HD exist. I checked the FW cable connections, all is well.

I'm on a 1.25 ghz G4 PM running 10.3.9.

Is there some software based thing I can do to fix the issue?

If not, how do I tell if it's the enclosure or the HD that has gone bad?

Any advice is appreciated!
