I just purchased an Adaptec USB2 PC card for my 1st generation 17" PowerBook. When I plug in my USB flash drive into it the light on the flash drive turns green but the drive does not show up in the Finder. I have tried the same card on a PC notebook and it works fine. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks.

It might be that the PC Card isn't providing enough power for the flash drive. Does that drive work on the USB port on a keyboard (those tend to have limited power, and so are good for testing this theory)?

Thanks. I'll check that out. I don't have such a keyboard but my wife may have one at her school. If that is the case, what can be done?

Well, I have seen USB 2 hubs that use two USB ports: one for data, one for power. If you got such a hub, you could plug the "just for power" plug into the PowerBook's slow ports just to grab power, but use the card to get high speed.
