a good place to start your homework is here in the peripherals forum where this has been discussed many times. to summarize what I have said before; get an enclosure from newegg.com and get a seagate hd b/c of the nice warranty.

Just on the maket is the new LaCie 300Gb d2 Extreme II FireWire 400/800 USB 2.
Bought one two weeks ago - no problems - a great piece of kit and a good price here in UK!
