I have the epson 1660 scanner which I use to scan in documents for a class I teach. Since 10.4 I've been using Image capture to scan in pictures (as opposed to the crappy epson drivers drivers). Everything was working well until I started to notice that after placing a document in Image capture would become unresponsive. It would scan the "overview" but never display the image and the "scan " button would be greyed out. They CPU would be normal (ie not pinned at 100%). The menus in IC would still work, in fact if I went to browse devices the scanner is listed.

Interestingly I could restart the computer and the IC would work - temporarily until I closed IC and had to use it again. Again it was the same symptoms. I can still use software provided by epson - it works but its clunky and produces less than desirable results.

I tried to use pacifist to reinstall IC but IC still gave me the same symptons. Any ideas what I do?

pasifist -> reinstall epson drivers ? (how?)
reinstall the OS (I really dont want to do this)

other ideas?

A long shot.

If you alter the fields in the scanning dialog (make a smaller scan), can you get the scan button to become active?
