Long story short. Old ibook g3 died while in target disk mode. I was in the middle of migrating everything off the 40gig ibook drive onto my new mac mini. Tried restarting the ibook several times in target disk mode, would work for about 30 seconds and then it would die. Finally there was the smell of electronics burning comming from the ibook.
I call apple, my machine is out of warranty... but they just replaced my logic board for free a couple of months ago... no deals, big money to get the thing fixed. But I don't need it fixed, I just want the data off the drive.
I have a screwdriver and I am an idiot. I pull the drive out of the ibook and put it in a firewire enclosure. It fits perfectly.
I plug it into the mini and freeze! The external drive freezes everything, even disk utiity and disk warrior 3.0.2 started off CD
If I start in safe mode and run applejack it says "not loadable" and "Can't determine dependencies" and a bunch of other stuff, I also think it refers to the external disk as "disk1s5"
Any ideas on how to fix this?
