You should be able to find out whether a box supports firewire or not, either from the labeling or by referring to the documentation with it. If the vendor doesn't want you to open the box for the manual, have THEM open it; it's all to get a sale, so they should be happy to help you out.

All of the reasonably priced firewire boxes I've seen have been from "nonbrands." Certainly not from a brand name I recognize... Sorry I can't help you there.

I think i wasn;t clear enough initially. Ive found a lot of boxes that are USB for $25 on line but they seem to then say they also have firewire ones but then provide no links to them

thanks for your help.

If you just want to browse through a product listing of different brands of firewire enclosures, I would go to Newegg.com and see what they have available. It's pretty clear on that site what has firewire and what doesn't.

I'm going to be building an external drive soon and am trying to figure out what case to buy as well.
