Usual 17" resolution is 1280x1024, you didn't say if your 17" is an Apple Display, 20" Display resolution is 1680x1050, so the 20" will have slightly more pixels top to bottom, and nearly 25% more side to side.
Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.
yeah i mean actual size. my current panel is a P.O.S. HP.
This is more precisely what im trying to ask.
like if the actual viewable dimensions of my 17"(diag) are whatever by whatever (in inches) then what is the widescreen 20" apple. is it higher or is it like my 17 inch but just a bit wider?

thx
Assuming the HP is 4:3 vs Apple at 16:10 the vertical dimesion of the apple would be roughly the same as the 17" HP and roughly two inches wider horizontally.
If you are asking if the two monitors will stand at equal heights then the answer is maybe. How tall is the HP panel (desk to bottom lets say). If one is taller than the other just use a book to prop the shorter one up. Or better yet, sell the 20" apple and get two 20" dells.
