I just ordered a FW case $130 from OWC. I changed my mind about the order (tech reasons), so I called them up to see if I could get a return. They charge 15% even though nothing was opened, including the UPS box. So I opted for an exchange for a $60 case that I could use, and creditted back the difference.

I asked how much 2nd day shipping was and they said it was $17. I paid $5 online for 2nd day for my enclosure from them. I told the guy about what I saw online and he said to "refresh the page, because that was last week's special." I did and saw that it was still $5. Then he said, that rate only applies to online orders. (I was calling to make an exchange for my online order.) He said they couldn't offer me that rate. I asked if I could re order online etc etc. but nada.

Anyways, I know a lot of people praise OWC here, but this guy wasn't too friendly. I beleive he wasn't sure what the policy was, as he first said, it was last weeks special, then when I checked for him, he said it was an online special. I felt like I was dealing with a shady 3rd party vendor.

I'd call them again, be very polite, and see if you can get a satisfactory resolution. If not, don't buy from them again, and pass on the word. I'm certainly having second thoughts of using them now and I was going to order over $1000 worth of merchandise.

I always pay with Amex. They fight like mad for me if I'm not happy with a vendor.

I'll try that. But I just checked resellerratings.com (a trusted site) and the reviews there are mediocre. The lifetime avg is about 5.7, pretty low.

As for your equipment, plan on not returning it. And I'd be wary of cust serv. if I were in your situation now. Mistakes happen, but OWC makes you pay the price. Again, their site clearly listed the shipping price TODAY of $5 as I mentioned. (They didn't honor it.) And for a "reputable" vendor, 15% restocking on a completely sealed product is a bit high. Anyways, thanks for the advice.

Weird. The last time I ordered from them, the item turned out to be incompatible (they didn't know ahead of time), and they refunded it and paid the return shipping. I've never had anything but good experiences.
