Anyone had any luck doing this? I have an ATI 9600 video card from a G5 (the 64mb/ADC/DVI variety). A number of websites say that this card should work in a G4 tower if you tape or cut two of the pins. I've taped them with no luck. I'm putting the card into a Quicksilver (rev. 1).

You have to be somewhat careful when doing the taping. The first time I tried in on a 9800 I didn't have any success, either. Give it a try again.

A DA. Getting the taping right was much more difficult than I expected it to be.

Nah...it's easy.

I did it on my 9600XT from my G5 and put it into my old DP 800 QuickSilver.

Pins 3 and 11 on back of card. Count from the plate side.

Tape only the back side. Trim neatly with an exacto.

especially ones with political tripe in them.

In what way was it difficult? I just put tape on a second time, still with no luck. The pins are certainly completely covered and the others are not. What else can be wrong? Any tips from your success would be appreciated.

Mine is a 9600 Pro. I wonder if there is a lower success rate with them?

nah...should work fine.

When you push the power button, what happens?

Nothing? Or does it boot to a blue screen?

Double check the pins. 3 and 11 on the back side of the card only, count from the plate side.

On that side of the card, the odd pins are thick, and the even pins are thin...make sure you are taping the right ones.

The difficult part is making sure that you've got the tape applied properly. There's no room for sloppiness.

When I push the power button the machine boots normally--I can hear the HD going through its normal motions. I know the machine has booted properly because I can push the shutdown button on the keyboard and then hit return and the machine will shut down again after the normal length of time.

The screen just stays black as the machine is booting up so the card just isn't throwing anything on the screen--no blue screen or anything.

Those are the symptoms I had when I hadn't gotten the tape as it should be.

I'm about to give up. I've tried taping in every way possible--overtaping, undertaping, different types of tape, etc. etc. No luck.

It doesn't matter how many times you do it, if you keep doing it wrong. Perhaps that isn't helpful.
