I was wondering if its possible to hook up my powermac g5 to my toshiba dlp tv, it is model 56mx195, and it has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 VGA input, however i read in the manual that toshiba doesnt recommending in using a dvi > hdmi convertor to hook up the computer to the tv, they recommend using the VGA port... unfortunately the highest resolution i can get from it is 1024x768 @ 60hz... not sure how this will look? If anyone here has successfully done this, please share with me your experiences on it. Is it worth it to hook up my mac to an HDTV? I plan on using my bluetooth mouse/keyboard to use my computer on. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1. Moving to Peripherals since this isn't a Power Mac-specific question, it's all about the TV.

2. I don't know why Toshiba is saying to not use HMDI inputs for DVI -- that's kinda the point. (DVI->HDMI isn't a converter, it's a simple cable.) I'd get the cable (from an online source like www.pccables.com -- don't pay insane retail prices) and see if it works. If not, fall back to VGA.

If the highest it can take on VGA is XGA, then it will look like poo.

Why does Toshiba recommend against DVI to HDMI converters?

Toshiba says almost exactly the same thing for the models with only HDMI. It sounds like all they want to do is keep the number of support calls regarding the computer input down to a minimum, but at the same time realizing that most of its competitors offer the feature (either DVI, HDMI, VGA or combination of) and wanting to "me too".

Just hook up your PowerMac using a DVI->HDMI adapter and it should work fine. If you have the cable, it might be worth trying the VGA input also to see which connection gives you the least overscan, as the results may be different.
