Does anyone else have this setup? I love the output that this printer has but there is some serious issues with it communicating in OSX. I am using the latest drivers from HP. Everytime I load them, the printer works for a day, maybe two, but the next time I try to print I get nothing but errors. I have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers to get the printer to work again.

Any suggestions or advice would be great!!!

Any luck with 10.2? The latest drivers were working good for us w/ 10.1.5. 10.2 didn't come with drivers that work with this printer. I'm wondering if I upgrade to 10.2 w/ the drivers installed on 10.1.5 will they still work? Any successes?

I can tell you that on my photosmart p1000, printing no longer works after the 10.2 install. I even downloaded and tried to reinstall using the previous drivers. A dialogue box pops up telling you that the drivers only work under 10.1.x

Once again, an OS X upgrade has left me printerless. I won't be so qucik to adopt early next time.

Yes, the same thing happend with the PhotoSmart driver. I'm surpirsed the the 500mb of print drivers that came with 10.2 that our printers are in there.

Its amazing that my unoffical Stylus Scan 2500 driver came out faster.

I had the exact same problem in os 10.1.x

of course now it does not work at all in 10.2.1
the only solution is to use Gimp Print, but the output is not nearly as good.

HP does not even know the 10.1.x random error problem exists and I would not be surprized if the problem persists in the upcoming printer driver that SOULD HAVE BEEN REALEASED TODAY!!!

Here is a quote from an email sent to my by a tech at HP.

"The printer was released prior to 10.2 and so was supported in all OS above 8.6 at the time. We are not aware of any chronic printing issues in 10.1 which have not been resolved by updates to both the OS and the printer driver. ..
We are developing PhotoSmart drivers for OS X 10.2 at this time that should be available by the end of September 2002."

I am furious, and will never buy an HP product again.

If you are still running 10.1.X and you are having these random comunication problems this might help. But I doubt it. And most of us are running 10.2.1 now anyway.

This is what an HP tech sent me....

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience due to our drivers. In OS 10.1.x there were reported issues with preinstalled drivers and the Print Center. If you are running OS 10.1.x please try the following.

Perform a clean install of the driver after uninstalling and removing the hp printer folder on the Hard Drive. A proper uninstall must be performed before you download and install the 1.3.6 driver. The procedure for this is as follows

(NOTE - DO NOT USE THIS PROCEDURE IF YOU ARE RUNNING OS 10.2 OS 10.2 is shipped with built-in drivers that can be used by our printers. If you have installed the 1.3.x version of our driver we recommend that you uninstall the driver and contact Apple for assistance with reinstalling the built-in drivers that ship with OS 10.2. The PhotoSmart Printers are not supported at this time. HP has addressed this issue. Please use the following link for information regarding OS 10.2 and our line of printers.):

1: Double click on the downloaded installer icon.
2: Proceed to the window that has "easy install" on it.
3: Click on the words "easy install" and change to "uninstall"
4: Click on uninstall in the bottom right hand corner of the window and follow the prompts.
5: Open Mac OS X Hard Drive, Double-click Library folder, Double-click Printers folder, Drag the Canon and Epson folders to the DeskTop, and the hp folder to the Trash (NOTE: Do not remove Canon or Epson folders if you use a Canon or Epson printer. Do not remove ppd plug-ins or ppd's)

SUMMARY: For additional information regarding the print Center and related issues please use the following Apple KB Documents at following links:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article2.html?artnum=106726

and

http://docs.info.apple.com/article2.html?artnum=106900

6: Reinstall the driver
7: Reselect the printer in Print Center:
Select Add Printer...From the popup menu at the top of the Add Printer window, select HP Imagining Connectivity. The printer should now appear in the Product List. Highlight the printer's name, and select Add. The printer should now appear in the Printer List.
