I'm just wondering if any Lacie Electron Blue Monitor owners could help me out with a query?

I have used both 19" and 22" Electron Blue CRTs for a few years, in the course of my work, with absolutely no problems. Last week I retired my 'old' Electron Blue to my office (it was about 2 years old, and although not faulty wasn't at its' best...) and decided to replace it with an identical model (19" EB III)...

I ordered the new display, and when it arrived it was hooked up to my DP 800 powermac, I immediately noticed half of the screen just flickered for about 5 minutes...it eventually stopped and I thought nothing more of it. However, on closer inspection I noticed horizontal lines across the whole screen eminating from the top and bottom of every window, and also, if there were any lines in the window they were also 'shadowed' across the rest of the page. If I closed the window they went, when I reopened a window they appeared again. If I moved a window on the screen, the lines moved around the screen. The best way I could describe it, is that it was like a bad TV arial signal. It was most noticeable on Internet Explorer windows, although could be seen all the time...

They were so noticeable it was impossible to work seriously on the machine (photoshop, indesign, quark). I tried everything to get rid of them, but met with no success.

I gave Lacie a call who guided me through a few tests, after which said that the unit was faulty...

They picked it up and dropped a new one off. The box the 'replacement' arrived in looked battered, and when I looked inside, I found the monitor to be unwrapped, the polestyrene broken etc. I again called Lacie who told me it had been used and returned and should never have been sent out!!

Anyway, I got a another replacement yesterday, and just set it up...However this one displays the same fault as the original faulty unit

I have uplugged it and tried a few different displays with the Powermac to see if it was my graphics card that was faulty. I have plugged in a few displays from my office - a Samsung (shadowmask) 17" CRT, a 17" inch Apple LCD, a Cinema display and a NEC 19" CRT and they all don't have the problem...

Just wondering if anyone could possibly shed any light on the issue? or if anyone else has had the same problem? Is there something I'm missing with the new LaCie displays? some secret switch introduced since my last one?

I've wasted a good 3 working days overall on this display issue, between trouble shooting and waiting for new ones to be delivered, and it has just passed the 'I'm a bit fed up' level and been escalated to the 'I'm pretty pissed off level'...

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated...

Cheers,

Marc

I'm a new owner of the exact Lacie 19" display that you have. This is my first time using one of these and I really love it. I was playing around with my new display and I found a button labeled FPM, which stands for Fine Picture Mode. With that engaged all the windows have a very noticable red streaking problem. I didn't make the connection at first and thought that my new monitor was defective. I just got a new DP 1ghz and I thought perhaps that had a problem too. Everythings ok now, have you tried turning FPM on and off? Like you the styrofoam inside the box was broken and taped, but the monitor appeared to be new and unused. I hope this helps you figure out your problem...

I noticed the red bleed as well, but it seems to go away when the display has been on for a2 or 3 minutes...

I think I have identified the monitor problem...my current install of OS X...

I have checked the monitor yet again without finding anything, but decided to delve a bit further as the problems seems to be getting worse...

I have discovered that if I boot off the OS X CD the effect does not occur. The same can be said of the OS 9 CD. I guess there is some sort of prob within the current install of OS X, or between OS X and my graphics card...

I recon another day of work, and possibly trying a clean install should get to the bottom of it once and for all...

weird... i've had my lacie 19incher for about a month now and never had a problem with FPM. oh by the way, i'm using a PM 800mhz...

the only problem i ever had were a bunch of vertical lines in the middle of the screen, but they disappeared after 2 days...
