Hello.

If you own a Maxtor One Touch Firewire/USB external drive have you managed to get it to spin down when your powermac or powerbook is sleeping?

When I sleep my mac it stays spinning all the time and never sleeps or goes into energy saving mode. I was sort of hoping it would be able to do this.

Cheers
Trevor!

I have that drive and it always seems to be "on" as well...I am wondering the same thing myself....how much power is it using, and does it stress the drive to be spinning all the time?

I was doing reinstalls on my Powermac and my Powerbook just the other day and when the G5 was sleeping so was the drive. So that got me happy. I woke and then slept the computer and it hasn't slept since.

I am not too sure if the constant running would stress it for us mere consumers (think of servers constantly working - they manage fine). Nevertheless I want it to spin down when my G5 is sleeping over night.
