I have noticed that recently many USB digital audio interfaces have been released, offering S/P-DIF inputs and outputs for the mac.

I have an imac, and would like to plug this into a dolby digital decoder, so that i could listen to 5.1 rather than shitty old prologic (analog).

I have searched the internet for hours, and have not found any information about whether any mac DVD software supports 5.1 output, or just mixes it down to 2 channel with prologic encoding.

Please, please, please can anyone who knows anything, or has friends who know or may be able to find out, tell us once and for all whether it is possible to get Dolby Digital 5.1 out of a USB equipped (eg. imac - no PCI) mac.

Thank you for your help,

Chris Birkinshaw
