I was wondering what's going on with HP DesJet drivers. I went to their site to check for an OS X driver for my DeskJet 930C but it didn't mention one little word. Does anbody have an idea if it will be out soon or at least ready when OS X ships? I can't imagine Apple supporting these printers default under X so I guess HP must be doing some new drivers...

There is a generic page for OS X. If you search the site it will be thrown up in the results. On this page it tells you that they are in development but will not be released until Mac OS X final ships.

What really ticks me off is that they are announcing only partial support for their printers, and they don't even say which ones! I paid $500US for my Deskwriter C, and then $80US for a USB-serial adaptor. It works fine still, even though there's multiple users bug in OS 9.
Maybe they'll open-source the drivers so somebody can compile new OSX ones. I'd pay $20 if a company created generic HP-compatible drivers for OS X.

I asked the same question in the Mac OS X forum. I remember that when OS 9 came out I had to wait 5 months for HP to release a driver update. I wonder if it will take them that long or longer for a OS X driver. I would think that they would release one simotansaly with the release of OS X. if they are smart. I would hate to have to buy a whole new printer jus to print under OS X (I have a DeskJet 670C). I also wonder if they will support the older printers such as mine or just the newer ones. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

this is precisely the reason why i bought an epson printer, since they dont' do stuff like take 5 months to release a driver update. or even better, canon, apple was using canon printers at the last expo and printing under osx

The unfortunite thing is I have a Parrel port HP printer using a Parrel to USB cable and a Mac print utility to use Wintel printers. It's only Classic Mac OS comptable.
