I've heard that with adaptec toast, you can't copy to, edit and delete files from CDRWs. ie your CDRW acts like a more expensive CDR. Is that true?

Certainly not.
Perhaps with the OEM model (though I HIGHLY doubt it).
I have an RW drive and Toast 4 Deluxe, and I use RW discs all the time, no trouble...

Well, yes and no (in my experience). The current version of Direct CD for the Mac is not as robust as the one for WIndows. You can "erase" files and "overwrite" files on the Mac, but you never get the disc space back until you actually reformat the whole CDRW disc. The WIndows version of Direct CD does let you actually erase file-by-file and will overwrite file-by-file much more like a hard drive (a really slow hard drive, however).

We're not talking about Direct CD... which hasn't been updated in ages anyway...

Um, I've got a slightly different question:

I've just picked up an old Yamaha 4260 CR-RW for my auld 8500. Obviously, the Apple dricer won't help. does anyone know of another solution I can use?

Thanks,

Jes

I agree, Cipher 13. Roxio has been updating Direct CD for windows regularly, but certainly not the Mac version. I haven't even seen any reference to it in the blurbs about Toast 5, although in one of the forums at Roxio an employee said they were working on a small update to just support more CDRW models with the current (crummy) feature set.
