Hi, I currently have a Sony Ericsson T637 and just ordered the z520a...it's on the way! I'm sorry for posting a new topic but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for...just bits & pieces here & there. I know Sony Ericsson is great with Macs, but I haven't really delved into it all just yet. I am trying to find a resource that's a "how-to" or "tutorial" for Sony Ericsson and Mac...what can this phone do and how do I do it? In order to connect to the Mac do I just need the cable from SE? What bluetooth stuff do I need to buy to get them to communicate? What applications are available and where do I find them? (Sony Ericsson's site just had some PC stuff as far as I could tell.) How exactly can I use this phone as a modem for an iBook G3? (do I need any hardware for the laptop? Do I need to set something up with Cingular to do that? What kind of charges are involved on my wireless account?)
Does anyone have experience, tips and resources for the z520a?
Thanks in advance!
(I have a G4 867 MHz PowerMac, the "Quicksilver" model, and a white 12" (2001) iBook G3 and am running Panther.)

Hi, I just got my z520a a few days ago and I love it. The remote control feature is great. I had a T616, but lost it and Cingular phone insurance replaced it w/a Motorola V551, which I didn't like because it didn't compare to how great SE is with Macs. I'm also partial to SE phones, they are superior in features compared to what's out there, not simply because they work great with Macs but because of what they are able to do. I've had Nokia phones and recently, like I said, Motorola and I've been most happy with SE. This z520a was EASY to use w/my G4 Desktop. I'm running 10.3.9. It was as easy as charging the battery, turning on Bluetooth, OH, you'll need a D-link to plug into your computer. That's it! The D-link communicates with the phone and computer. I can't remember how much it cost because I bought one nearly 2 years ago when I bought my T616. The Bluetooth Assistant Utility helps you set up the phone and you're ready to start!
The ONE issue I'm having and I'd really appreciate it if you got back to me on this after you've tested out the z520a, is the camera feature. While I don't care much for this feature, this particular phone (I think it could be faulty manufacturing or if you discover you have the same issue, faulty design) camera button, the side one and also, the buttons just below the camera phone are super sensitive to touch. i don't yet have a phone pouch for this phone but it seems that barely running my finger over the camers button turns on the camera and it snaps away continuously. I've checked the settings and there isn't a way to turn off or disable the camera nor this button. The shooting preference is set to Normal NOT Burst. But what is a bit annoying is the buttons below it also trigger the camera to turn on. It happens frequently enough that I'm going to phone SE and Cingular to see what's going on and perhaps exchange it for another but I'd like to hear back from you before doing this. As I have 30 days to exchange or return the phone, I'm hoping that by then you will have become familiar enough with this phone to let me know how the camera works for you. Thanks!

As far as I know, I haven't heard of SE and Mac How To books, but they are probably out there. You don't need any cables for your phone to work Bluetooth w/the G4. I don't know about your iBook, I don't have one. I've heard of phone being able to act as modems and I vaguely recall the T616 I used to have could've been used as one, so it could be safe to assume the z520a has this feature. As far as charges with Cingular, they now have internet connection packages. Check with them. If you have any questions about this phone, feel free to post here and I can help you out. Over the past 2 years, I, too, ran into a lack of material on how to use Bluetooth and Mac w/SE, but you'll find that it is so easy. It's a matter of going through the steps over and over until they become second nature. Good luck!

Has anyone been able to use the Z520a as a dial-up modem over Bluetooth? I get 'No carrier' immediately after the phone dialing begins.
This happens on both my iMac w/ built-in Bluetooth and my iBook with a USB-Bluetooth adapter.
Suggestions? I will have to return the phone if I can't get this to work.

This has been a VERY common common complaint with this particular model. It is not a defect. Actually, this is one of the number one reasons I've chosen to avoid this phone.
