Hello,

don't know if this question belongs here or in perpherals.

Im thinking of getting a new system this spring and including a 22" cinema display. I got one for my father last july and it had a lot of problems with it
mainly having uneven color and brightness in one quadrant. apple tried to repair it and it came back the same.. this problem is ongoing.

but it had no 'dead pixels' what is the real apple policy on this and is there anyway to insure you get what they show you in the show rooms:

a real wysiwyg.

ideas?

thanks rotut

Well, I've just purchased my second ACD and this time I'm going to get *exactly* what I want.

I bought locally to ensure (and asked especially) that if I had any problem with the unit I could exchange it for another. My first display (granted it was one of the first ACD's built) had quite a few dead pixels annoyingly enough in the middle of the screen and was bought from the Apple store. They weren't bad enough to send the unit back to Apple, but noticable. The second problem was that the lcd panel was not aligned with the outer case, so that the display appeared "tilted". That was a bit more annoying. Third, and I really don't know any more about this, was the fact that some ACD's don't seem to work properly via the screen's buttons (power/brightness). The power works, but will not put the computer to sleep and brightness only works on the display but not from the displays preference panel.

That display has been gone for over a year and this new one (bought yesterday) already has some dead pixels and the tilting problem. Although the panel buttons do seem to work properly. Interestingly enough the TWO units on display don't have either problem. Also, the unit bought yesterday shows some minor damage on the rear of the display--this alone is enough to warrant the exchange process in my mind. I'll re-post if/when I get another to see if it has similar problems (hopefully not!).

I'd recommend anyone seriously wanting to spend the $$$ on an ACD to make sure they can get one they like before moving on...

The first ACD I bought had significant color variation over the left half of the screen. I returned it to the Apple Store within the return period and they replaced it with no hassle. The second ACD is perfect -- nice color consistency and no dead pixels. So great ACDs do exist.

I'm now on my second ACD, first one was sent back as everyone knows why.

I can't believe something so expensive they have such horrible care for.. it looks like they just throw them toghether... are these things made in mexico?!

Anyhoot, I havent seen this tilt problem, nor can I see how that would happen, since the LCD is bolted to the case... if it tilts then there's a serious defect apple HAS to replace!!!

One thing I find annoying that's a product line defect is all the mold lines, which don't look attractive, but otherwise, everything has worked beautifully on this display.

My last one, unfortunately, got worse every day, I started getting ghosting lines (felt like a 1994 LCD!!!)

The only little disturbance on this display is one stuck pixel (red, and variates depending on what's near it.. maybe it's a video card defect), which goes away during normal usage. That's about it, I've examined everything on here, and it was perfect.

Now as for the second matter, it really pisses me off how they treat their little POS imacs and CONSUMER &*(%^&*@#$%@&*#$%^%#@^&*#$%*@^%@#^ &*@#$%*@#$^&%@#$* better than something where I could have BOUGHT 10 FRIGGIN IMACS!!!!!!!

[rant] I paid $7k for this setup, and I got a shitty defective monitor, a CPU that makes hella noise and probably has a bad hard drive, a shitty manufactured keyboard, and a little crappy speaker!!!!!!!!!

THEN, oN top of that, you get placed on hold for A LONG TIME, and get treated like anyone else!!! Where's respect for their top customers?!

We've now bought a second machine... 11k into apple *grumble* this time they better do it right!!!!!

It seems like they don't care at all for people who pay top dollar
