I've got a Pyro drivew kit with a Sony CR140XE CDRW installed and I'm getting weird results with my macs.

First, the G4 400 (pre-gigabit) doesn't even recognize the drive. We installed the Radialogic software that came with the drive kit, but no beans. The system profiler recognizes that there is a radialogic device on the Firewire bus when plugged in, but the CDs never get mounted.

Second, it worked fine on my PB500 G3 (Plastanium!) However, yesterday, I installed Toast 4.1.2 and now toast doesn't see the drive as a burner, but the powerbook at least mounts CDs. The CD volumes don't show up in the system profiler.

Both machines are running 9.0.4 with Firewire 2.5 drivers.

Should I remove the radialogic drivers? They don't seem to be necessary. (It's their "Drive Master" software or something like that.)

The weird thing is that Toast 4.0 recognized the drive as a burner on the PB, but stopped after upgrading to 4.1.2. What's with that?

I wasted 2 hours last night trying to get things to be recognized. Any help?

try updating your firewire drivers to version 2.7... just might do the trick.

I wasn't aware Firewire was up to 2.7, but I'll check!

OK, I just checked. 2.5 is the latest. The firmware is up to 2.7, but I already have that. Any other suggestions?

i think 2.8 is actually shipping with the latest power macs and powerbooks. you can find 2.7 on the disc that shipped with the current batch of imacs.

Got it!

The problem was the Radialogic Storage Master drivers, just as the thread you mentioned was.
I tried removing them before I saw your reply and that solved it.
Thanks so much for the help!

Now if I could only get up the nerve to install 9.1.... maybe when I get OSX.

OK. Even though the PB was working fine with the Firewire CD-RW, our non-gigabit G4 did not even know it was connected.

Get this: I had to install the Radialogic storage master program, hte uninstall it. After that, the G4 and Toast would recognize the drive! What's with that?

Now my problem is that the built in DVD rom doesn't seem to extract audio at more than 2-4x (barely 4x). I figured the DVD-rom would extract around 8x, but based on a thread in the G4 Forum, it may not be capable of it.
My PB seems to have a similar limitation.

Does anyone know if there might be an extension or driver interfering with faster Audio extraction of the built in DVD drives?

(I'll check on the virtual memory settings)

Thanks!
