I own a G4 867 and a ibook2, both are running Mac OSX 10.1.2.
I have installed the Epson Stylus Photo 890 driver on both computers (one for classic and another for X). On the Ibook the printer works with classic and X apps, but on the G4 it only works with classic. Whenever I try to print from any X app or even start printer tests a message pops up saying that the connection is broken and should be checked.

Did anyone notice this problem too? neither Apple nor Epson could find out why I can not print with X apps on my G4!

is the printer connected to the G4 via a USB cable when you try to print? or are you thinking you can print over the network.

Yes! the printer is connected with USB cable. The G4 is networked with a G3 but the printer is never shared.

Geraud hi
i had the same problem on my powerbook Ti with the epson 890 ( love the printer) When i first loaded the software I could not get it to print in either classic or X .
I downloaded the OSX drivers from the epson web site and installed as instucted, still no luck.
I left it for about 4 hrs ( frustrated I was ) when i came back to it I deleated my download and tried again, this time the instructions for the setup where different - new location and route to load the software, so I followed it, and now have no problems printing from X apps including Microsoft officeX.
So check the epson site and reinstall as i did, it may help
Bullet : it also let me access the epson printer utility through OSX no problems, but the printer must be turned on. to check ink levels.
To see this file check in the applications folder - or whereever you have it. i hope this helps guys.
I'm new to mac and am still learning how this all works. Chio
