How do you feel about the SoundSticks? I was thinking of getting a new little bookshelf stereo, but i though maybe i could save some money and get some bad ass speakers for my iBook. How does anyone like the soundsticks?

From what I understand, the Soundsticks are very good speakers, but they're overpriced. If you're looking for pure sound quality at a low price and you don't care about style, there are probably better alternatives.

Hmm, I would say I was happy, but not overwhelmed by the SoundSticks. Compared to my Yamaha speakers (without sub-woofer) on my PC, seem to lack brightness.

I've tried turning down the bass on the sub-woofer, I've played with the treble and bass on programs that allow me to do that, but still they seem quite mid-range.

If you want bass and don't live in a flat (the sub-woofer sits on your floor and the floor vibrates with the bass/volume turned up high - not so good for the people below these are ideal speakers for your Mac

Well, i've been reading some of the previous topics about speakers, and it sounds like the Monsoons are the best hands down, and they have good style. So i think i may go with that. Any comments?

The Monsoon set would be a good choice and won't tie up the USB port. You might also want to check out the Cambridge Soundworks offerings.

Avoid USB.
Get the Boston Acoustics BA635 - 2 satellites and subwoofer. These things rock. For less than the price of the soundsticks, get TWO sets of these for 4 satellites and TWO SUBS... that setup absolutely FREAKING RULES.
Plug them in via an audio out splitter ($3 at Fry's or something).

I have the 'Sticks for six weeks now and they are fantastic! A truly balanced sound, very flat. They look wonderful of course, but the truth is that they are excactly what I needed, a very small set for all kinds of music, MP3, radio and even television.

My 2 cents...

I've had the Soundsticks and iSub for about six months now and I think they're awesome. If you want perfect sound quality go for something else (they're very good, but not that good). If you want good computer speakers that look the mutt's nuts, get them.

I've had my soundsticks for 6 months and I love them. USB sound isn't perfect I admit, but support seems a lot better in OS 9.1. I would only reccoment the sticks if you plan to use them at a desk however. Because of their shape they sound the best if you are positioned properly infront of them. When you move around the room you start to hear where the sound is coming from. Also, try to avoid putting the sub on carpet because of the vertical orientation of the sub (as opposed to horizontal in all other subwoofers) most of the sound comes out of the bottom and sounds best when on a hardwood floor or similar surface. My old machine back home is a 6400 (built in subwoofer + Apple Monitor w/ the huge vertical speakers attatched) and I used to think it sounded amazing, much better than my stereo system. Now when I go home from school and listen to music on the 6400, after using the soundsticks at school I hear a very apparent difference. The soundsticks are far superior, and once you get used to that sound you get a little spoiled, but I do agree that the monsoon speakers are a better value.
