Would it be unwise to purchase a refurb 23" cinema display? I'm pretty sure I'm getting a 23" sometime in the next month or so, my wife is getting into HD video and DVD production, and we're wanting to support that in the display.
Apple is offering the 23" refurnb for $1099 (saves $200 from what I could get, even from Amazon, though with having to pay tax, its a little less of a deal).
Would I be better off getting the Refurb, or the brand new? As far as I can tell, I can't buy AppleCare on either of these without buying a tower ( I have a 2.0 which runs great, so thats out.)
Or would I be better off with a different brand of monitor. I also do graphic design - web and print - so I'd like something that could handle both, which I expect the Cinema can. Probably a little gaming wouldn't hurt anyone, either. We'll be upgrading the video card soon for Aperture (maybe 1.5).

Correct, you cannot buy AppleCare for a display unless you buy it at the same time as a PowerBook or PowerMac.
I like the Dell 2405FPW (higher contrast, higher brightness, better stand (4 degrees of freedom), many more input options, 3 year warranty standard) and it's currently under $900 new at the Home & Home Office or Small Business stores. It also has no history of pink cast problems, which may be important to you for graphic design.

I'd have to say the dell would be my choice too. It outclasses the apple 23" in every way. I recently got to look at them side by side (at my school's computer store) and to be very honest, there is no reason I see to get the apple over the dell, even if the apple was cheaper (and we know that's never the case).

The 2405 looks like it should fill the ticket just fine. Dell had it on their site yesterday for $899, which seems like a great price for the size. When could I expect new versions to come out? Is there a press release, or just rumors?

I seem to remember them saying summer of '06 for the revised 2407 and such... but this is just a guess...
