I know about this one here: http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=363 and its pretty affordable ($60ish) but on the site it says its compatible with pretty much any WIndows version.....doesn't even mention Mac so I am afraid to get it. I want to be able to hook up my one monitor/keyboard/mouse to both of my machines....that woudl be a mini and a PC tower. Does anyone know if this particular brand is cross platform and if not, is there a similar one out htere that costs the same but is cross platform? Thanks.

You'd probably be best with:

http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=p...p;Item=GCS632U

It's about $60ish and works perfectly with the mini - actually I know several people who use them with Macs, including myself.
One thing is that when you first plug it all in it won't work correctly - you need to change the hotkey setting, as described in the manual, as by default it is set to use ScrollLock which Macs don't have. If you're using a PC USB keyboard, then you shouldn't need to change this.

wow i forgot about my posting here...lol. I ended up getting the one that the apple store was selling...it was by belkin and it also included audio support. works perfect. only downside is that it includes mic support but there is no mic port on the mini....oh well. i will just get a usb mic.

I had the a Belkin model for a while (the one with the long thin button on top), and overall it worked fine, but it had one annoying "feature" that I found hard to tolerate. The button on the top of it isn't actually linked to the physical switch, and once pressed the unit decides if it's going to switch or not. This means that you can't switch quickly between computers because, at least mine, wouldn't allow me to switch back within 20 seconds or so. The second annoying feature I found was that the autoscan overrides anything you want. If you switch to the other computer and it doesn't find a video signal, it switches back... very frustrating when you are trying to edit BIOS settings or boot options!

Hope you have better luck with yours

Stepping up to a DVI KVM includes an order of magnitude step up in price. I've seen some advertised, but the sticker shock blocked my mind from remembering brands...

Fortunately (?) for me, I still only have a VGA display, so I haven't taken the plunge or gone to a lot of trouble researching this.

Not quite $600, but I haven't seen one I'd trust for under $200

Are there **ANY** DVI KVMs that fully support Apple keyboards and function keys, like Eject, Volume up/down, Brightness up/down?

My lovely bride would be *very* happy to get rid of the large CRT attached to the "got it for free and need it every now and then" PC and use only the DVI Cinema Display. But I would hate to give up the use of Apple's specialized keys completely for just to be able to use a PC a minutes a month.

Look for Mac compatibility - then buy from a store with a good returns policy, so if it doesn't work as you like, you can take it back.
