Hi, I have a G4 that came with a CDRW. I recently bought a bare internal Apple SuperDrive and replaced the CDRW with that internally. But, since the SuperDrive only does 8x write for CDRs and the original CDRW does 24x, I want to keep the CDRW connected to this machine.
I purchased an external firewire enclosure (the ADS Pyro) and stuck the CDRW in that. The problem I'm having is that Mac OS X (10.1.4) does not see the SuperDrive and CDRW as separate drives. It thinks they're one drive. So, when I hit the eject key, both drives open up. If I have a DVD in the SuperDrive, then stick a CD in the CDRW, it unmounts the DVD and mounts the CD. Very annoying -- not to mention the eject button on the front of the CDRW doesn't open the tray.
I have another Pyro firewire enclosure connected to the same machine and have a hard drive in that one. That works perfectly, so I don't believe that's the problem. Especially since the CDRW actually works fine, just not at the same time as the SuperDrive.
If anyone knows what I need to do to get the two drives to work as distinct devices under Mac OS X, I would be very grateful.
