We have a Que! Fire 12x10x32 which came with Toast 4.1.2. I have tried using the drive with Toast on a G4 pre giga ether with 192MB of ram, and my own iBook SE Firewire. Everything seems to work fine until the very end, it just sits there with a full green status bar (in Toast) with the words finishing above it. I increased the cache to 64 as recommended in another post when I did a search. On the G4 it seemed to help, and then the problem returned after two CD's succesfully got burned. So that is the first problem, just burning a CD. The second problem is getting Retrospect to see the burner, or rather use it. Under it's Device Status it sees the drive, but when you try to select CD-R as the media to back up to it says there is no drive of back up device available. Although Retrospect says that this drive is in the testing stage, another person in these's forums said they got it to work and that it worked fine. Any help is appreciated.

I don't really know how to help, but that can be caused by having the applications RAM set too low. Increase the RAM allocation to Toast via Finders Get Info window.
Sorry I can't help further
Hm... I assume you're using Toast OEM. I strongly advise upgrading to Toast Deluxe 4, or Toast 5 Titanium when it comes out.
Deluxe is so much better than OEM...

Sorry, can't help with Retrospect - I'm not familiar with it, and have never used it before. Hold out for an update/driver hack...?

I let the burner go just sitting there for an hour or so, and when I got back there was a "line-in line out" error message, no Idea what that is all about, but hoped someone would know what is going on.

Ah, sweet - what version FireWire drivers do you have?
What version of the Toast FireWire support driver do you have?
Get Toast Deluxe for one thing...
Update those two drivers.
Check your FireWire cords, and ports. Try another port on your computer.
See if the Apple System Profiler see's the drive (dunno if it even should... it SHOULD, but my ASP doesn't even show empty FireWire buses, where it shows empty USB buses...)

I plan on purchasing the Que! Fire 12x10x32 drive in the next few weeks. I considered a Yamaha 8/8/24 model but it cost more.

I hope I don't experience some of the problems I've read about here in the forums. I have an iMac DV/SE running OS 8.6. Does anyone have any advice on how to have a trouble-free experience? Anyone out there actually have good results to report with this drive?

I was also going to buy the QUE but when I read some reader reviews I changed my mind. I am going with th e Boa 12-10-32. Go to Mac World's site and search the reviews on firewire. After reading the reviews go to the bottom of the page for user reviews. I

Update.
I have gotten the drive to burn, all I did was drop the cache from 64MB to 32MB, that seems to have done it.

Chiper13, I decided to take your advice and go ahead and purchase Toast Deluxe, the two things that encouraged my decision were I did a search on this forum and you seem to recommend it often, and two I will be able to purchase Toast 5 at a minimal cost. Thanks for your input.

For anyone else who is interested, I got an email back from Dantz, and they do not yet support this drive, but continued to say it is testing well. They continued with the disclaimer saying they didn't know when if ever the drive would be supported. They did not offer a hack.

Another thing to note, according to the ROXIO site, is that the OEM version of Toast (aka Toast Standard) DOES NOT SUPPORT OR WORK WITH RETROSPECT. Read it for yourself at http://www.roxio.com/en/products/toa...tupgrades.html and scroll past half way to "DATA CD FEATURES"

DBursey: Don't cheap out. It's not worth the potential hassles. $50 now = less headaches later. Yamaha and Plextor are highly rated and praised for many years now.

Well, after much musing and agonizing over reviews, I've chosen the Yamaha CRW2100IXVK-MP, as described at the far end of this chart. The cost is a little more, but as recommended by Cipher and kkneisley I've decided to go with a proven brand name. Thanks guys The specs for the thing look great!

The only drawback is that I have to wait until the end of March to get the unit in on special order.

Nice choice. I want the same thing, but I'm debating on FW vs SCSI. I have a currently unused Bluenote in my G4, but FW is only 20 USD more.

That, and I won't need to reboot when I turn the drive on.

Hmmm. Is it really that obvious?
