Making PDFs is nice but not so useful if they are only images and cannot be indexed and searched. I'm curious if anyone is using ScanSnap with some third-party OCR software.

The ScanSnap comes with Adobe Acrobat Standard 7.0. You can set the ScanSnap Manager to send all scans to Acrobat (be sure to bump up the default scanning resolution to anything but "Fastest"). Once your scan is in Acrobat, you can have it OCR your scanned text and save it as a invisible text layer that Spotlight will automatically index. I tested this and it worked just fine. There are other people on the net who have ScanSnap send the PDF to be stored inside Devonthink, then have Acrobat index it afterwards.

Thanks for the info. How does the OCR feature of Acrobat compare with, say, Omnipage or Readiris?
