I'm in the market for a digital camera -- I'm interesting in decent image quality, good battery life, and an emphasis on portability.

Currently I'm looking at the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P5 -- has anyone used one of these? Does it work with iPhoto?

Answered my own question here: http://electronics.cnet.com/electron...5-1318-6939922

Also, being a Mac user, I was very glad to see how easily the P5 connected and mounted on the desktop as an external drive. (This is the 3rd digital camera I've had over the years.) Connecting to a Titanium G4 (OS X) required NO additional software to be installed! It also works beautifully with Apple's new (free) iPhoto software for the still images.
Also, for those who are interested, here is a good review of it:

...and this place seems to have some pretty good deals on them:

I was looking at this camera too, thanks for the info. Can't quite get it right yet. The Canon S110 is the other ultraportable that seems to get slightly better reviews, but the Sony is a little more advanced although $100 more. I played around with it a little bit at Best Buy and the feel is great, IMO.

I personally like Memory Sticks more than any other flash format, and they've gone way down in price recently.

Oh yeah, you might wanna check out www.buydig.com too. About the same price, but they're pretty reputable, and they have really great prices on a lot of stuff.

The Sony's are not that great. They are slower then OSX.

I just got the Nikon 775. Awesome camera and very very small. Apple has them littered all over the Apple stores. The battery is 100 minutes WITH the LCD on (that is great) and the image is very good.

The best digital camera's are Canon and Nikon. Canon's have a slightly better picture, the Nikons are cheaper and smaller.

Sor the Sony they mention some serious problems with it such as poor whitepoint. This is probibly the most important thing on a camera.

I just went to cnet to read the review for this camera here:
http://electronics.cnet.com/electron...ml?tag=rev-rev

It says it has shot-to-shot times of ~12 seconds! On the Sony's review it says the shot-to-shot time is 2-3 seconds. There and at dpreview.com it notes they both have slow startup times.

I dunno, they all seem to have their pros and cons. I think the feel of the Sony's is the best though (square cameras are iffy to me!)

as someone w/ a p5 in hand, let me tell you it's a great camera.
i bought it in october, and it's been a dream ever since.

no whitepoint problems, and i've compared it with other cameras (friends...)
great battery life, despite what some people say,
great controls... so simple.
interfaces w/ mac like nobody's business.
just plugged it in and there it was.
yeah, i'm in os9, so no experience w/ it in x, but it's flawless for me.

solid choice. sony's a good bet cause they know computers real well, where as (imho) nikon knows cameras real well, but not computer interfaces so well...

would love to be able to play with iphoto though...
perhaps soon.
