Dell is rumored to be releasing a new line of displays today (21st) including a 30 inch model using the same panel is the Apple model.
My problem is that I am now in the immeadiate market for a new machine and display(s) as my insurance settlement for my laptop just came through. I am looking at a Quad 2.5, 7800 GT, 4 GB RAM etc but don't know what to do display wise.
I am using dual Apple 20s at work but would like some more vertical res. It will probably take a while for the dell displays to be availble at the cheaper prices so am I best just to get a 1600x1200 20inch display now for the extra res or spend a little more for a 24?
EDIT: Just realised I am doing something I don't like doing. Should have put "Rumor" in the title. Sorry.

If you want more vertical pixels, buy a Dell 20/24" and rotate it 90 degrees.
I would be surprised to see Dell release new displays on the 21st of December.

Oldish news but...
From Engadget
Dell 3007WFP
Display Size: 30 inch
Response Time: 14ms
Brightness: 400cd/m2
Contrast: 700:1
Viewing Angle: 178/178
Native Resolution: WQXGA (2560 x 1600)
PC Connectivity: DVI-D (Dual link) x 1 with HDCP
Others: 4-Port USB Hub, 9-in-1 Multimedia Card Reader/Slots, Height Adjustable Stand, Swivel & Tilt. (No pivot)

They certainly look a bit better than the current displays!

I am a big fan of pivoting displays but the damn NVIDEA cards don't support it on the Mac! It is nearly enough for me to buy an older DP 2.7, chuck a ATI x800 XT in it and enjoy the pivoting goodness. Not quite enough though.

Hey, I could be wrong about this. I generally try not to get involved in the whole rumor thing but this time it is a little different for me. I am actually seriously in the market and when there is something possibly this close, it is worth investigating.
Unless (if they actually come out today) they are well priced from the beginning and actually available here in the UK at a decent time, I am leaning towards getting a 1600x1200 20 inch display (probably a Formac) if i can get it for £350 to £400. If I can't, I might just stretch to a current Dell 24 inch which I could still see for alright money (just over £600) when the 30" displays are a decent price and are available.
Of course my other option is to get an 22 inch CRT off ebay for <£100 and use that until a new 30" is within reach...

EDIT: Messed up with the models. Fixed
£374 for the 2001FP (1600x1200), £324 for the 2005FPW and £600 for the 2405. That was after a bit of searching and it looks like a pretty nice price.

Well, it looks like they are going to release it at CES. Engadget is reporting that Dell as confirmed it exists and to check back on the 5th January , 2006.
Should be interesting.
EDIT: fixed date due to me being an idiot.

Any word on the price? I'm guessing $1999.
