First, let me apologize for this question because it's proably kind of stupid. I just recently purchased an Epson 740i printer. I was wondering if it's true that every time you turn the power on, it wastes ink preparing for it to print.

I could have sworn that I remembered reading somewhere about a way that you can over ride this in order to save on the ink used. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

Thanks,

Crystal

Mine spends about 20 seconds making all kinds of noises and performing its own diagnostic routine. I don't think this involves wasting ink, though it may be charging the nozzles. Any ink used in this process would be minimal.

I never turn mine off. It just sits there waiting for me to send it something to print. If it has been a little while, it goes through its cleaning/diagnostic routine and then prints when it is ready.

Hello, i also have an Epson 740, just not the "i" version. it doesn't waste ink when it does it's little routine, it's just charging the printheads. Since the heads are built into the carriage, not the actual ink cartridge (like HP's) it needs to charge the heads if you haven't printed for a while. But that's the only downfall to Epson's, is that sometimes you have to wait a bit before the print actually comes out. But the quality is awesome. :-)
