I was shopping for some christmas presents when I saw a couple of 19" widescreen LCDs in the mall. I was wondering for a while why there were no other widescreen LCDs than Dell's and Apple's. I finally bought this Acer screen.

I got it for € 300, and I think it is a good investment. I han an 17" TFT before, so I don't have more pixel real estate (1280 x 1024 vs. 1440 x 900), but I like the widescreen format. It is awesome for watching video and since I don't have a TV this is really cool. It has a sleek look, is very bright and has a real good sharpness, despite it's analog only input.

It is connected to my Mac mini, which is rumored to have analog output problems (dim picture), but I haven't encountered any issues with my last two analog screens. So if anyone is looking for a decent and decently priced widescreen TFT, the Acer might be worth a look.

How do you like the resolution? I am hedging on a 19" Viewsonic with the same resolution (may be the same panel, in fact) because I am not sure that it would be a huge jump over my current 1280x854 PB screen.

I'd say you are better off buying a 20" screen. 1440x900 is not really adding useful space for you. 1650 x 1050 will suit you more, I guess, since you are looking for more space.

I'm about to buy one of these Acers. A friend just got the Viewsonic and it has great picture quality, I just prefer the look of the Acer (plus its a bit cheaper on sale at the moment). My main reason for not getting a 20" is that they tend to be quite a lot more expensive than these 19" panels. Mine will be running off an iBook in spanning mode so I guess considering it will be playing with 16mb vram, the lower the res the better.

Just wanted to give some add information: I changed the Acer for an Fujitsu Siemens 19" with DVI. But that FSC did suck lik hell. Although it had good brightness and DVI, the picture quality was far worse than the Acer's, since you could not move without the colors changing substantially. I gave it back and finally got the Acer again. It is really a good display for a very decent price, I can recommand it for anyone who want's a cheap widesceen display. For serious work I would rather suggest a 1650x1050 Pixel display, since the 19" don't really add any space.
