Ok boyz,

Here's a curler... I bought one of the old PC to Mac monitor converters for plugging in PC VGA monitors into the old rectangular Mac 7200 plugs. The converter has 15 dip switches on it (turning the 15 pins on or off) to allow it to (somehow?) control the resolution off the PC screen. I had it working beautifully at 640x480 until someone messed around with the dip switches. Would anyone know the combination of the dip switches to allow 640x480 resolution again?

Just take it to your favorite computer store, take one off the shelf, and mimick the DIP settings.

There's only 32,768 combinations, so trial-and-error shouldn't take long. Of course, if you had a cluster of them then you could brute-force crack it in much less time...

The dip settings vary between manufacturers and even mac models. Try looking it up on the web, to see if any diagrams are there. I always taped over the dipswitches to keep morons away. An even better solution is to use a Panasonic monitor cable - they have a Mac VGA on one end and a standard VGA on the other. Total no-brainer.

I have had one of those when I needed it (voodoo 3 now, no need) and I remember faintly that all dip switches were on (or off?) and that either the one on the end or the second to the end (or some combination, and I dont know which end) was set on off... play with the ends a bit...
